Does the Aspire require a VPN network for VOIP phones?

If the answer above is "Yes", what equipment is needed on the distant end (where the Voip phone will be)

Last question:
Pardon my lack of computer knowledge.
If a VOIP phone is set up on the Aspire, can I plug it into any internet connection and I will be ready to go? In other words, if I set the phone up to work at a customers home, can he take the phone with him when he travels and pluf it into any internet connection and it will work (plug and play)?

Thanks
Windy

It is not that easy. You will need a hardware VPN connection between the phone and the system.
An alternative could be the softphone which can be set up using a software vpn within windows.

Does the VPN require equipment where the phone is?
Also, if you move the phone from one location to another, does it require re-programming the phone?

If the Ip address is dynamic where the phone is, is that a problem?

Thanks for the info and the quick response.

The IP phones have to have a router to router VPN tunnel setup.

Also the routers should have options for QOS set, and if this is through the internet the voice quality cannot be guarenteed.

VoIP needs a managed path, and all switches need QOS turned on.

The softphone will work at any location as long as the locations firewall is not blocking the VPN tunnels. Again if the path is via the internet do not count on "Business Quality" voice connections.

Thanks,
Customer is looking for "Business Quality" connection and wants to use his existing internet connections. One of the applications is remote collection agents.

Thanks again for your candid response.

QoS is a must but also do some tests on his internet connection and see what he can support. I believe bandwidth.com still tells you how many VOIP calls you can handle with your internet connect. A bandwidth is much more reliable then the download and upload speeds.

The IPK II has a VoIP reference manual so I would think the Aspire has one. The manual is over 200 pages and I highly recommend reading it, lots of usefull information, you will be impressed what these systems can do.
