I've installed hundred of IPKs with SPE using it as a MIFM if I run it in SPE mode can I program the VMS thru a ethernet port and the the cable that comes with the SPE connected to port 4 on the SPE. The cossession I have works great via the serial port direct connected to the VMS and I can connect to the IPK via the network but wondering how I would connect to the VMS. The version of cossession I have is 7.0. The install that comes with the SPE shows it connected to the voicemail but pretty vague on everything else.

VMS can only be programmed using the serial port. The newer LX voice mails are programmed using the network connection.

If you connect the cable that comes with the SPE card to port 4 and then the voicemail serial port you can program the voicemail over your Ethernet connection. You will need to install the SPE software on your computer, the software will create a virtual serial port that Cosession will use to connect the SPE and ultimately to the voicemail card. Depending on which version of voicemail you will have to log into the SPE web page and change the baud rate of COM 4 on the SPE card to the baud rate of the voicemail 19,200 or 57,666 for the newer U30 & U40 voicemails.

Why does the VMS serial port connected to port D of the SPE ? And it talks about COM53 to connect to the voicemail?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I am trying to locate the cable that connects the SPE com ports (10P10C, RJ50) to the VMS serial port. Apparently 1 cable is included with the SPE package and more can be ordered but I'm having trouble locating a part number for the cable. Alternatively, if the pin outs are available, I should be able to hack up a straight through db9 cable and graft on a 10 pin RJ45. Are these NEC cables the same as a EIA-232 Modem Cables RJ-45 10-pin to DB-9 cable? a.k.a ftp://ftp1.digi.com/support/cabling/modem_rj45_10pin_db9m.pdfthere are also these modular adaptors a.k.a https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291144863123
