I don't know how many of you know this already, but I learned a great trick today for fixing corrupt or questionable system files.

Windows 95/98/ME users can go to:

Start > Run

And then type in "sfc" with or w/o the quotes.

That will run the system file checker which will scan your system files and ask you to replace any corrupt ones (have to have your install CD). This is a great fix for any error messages you get, or run time errors. Could fix 'em...

For 2000/NT/XP users, same thing almost:

Start > Run

Type "cmd". Once you get the console (looks like the old DOS console) type sfc and hit enter. It'll give you a list of options as to what type of scan you want to run. Typing sfc /SCANNOW will do a normal scan.

VERY helpful for getting rid of random errors or if you think you've bit hit by a virus or anything like that.

Other tips...

Download the program "Spybot" you can get it at https://security.kolla.de/.

This program will scour your computer for "adware" and other annoying programs that create popup ads, bog down your computer, or do other uncalled for things. This is not a virus scanner, but it does remove a lot of programs and problems that you may be having issues with.
