How do you associate a dos programming file to Hyper Term. using XP Pro? this is driving me nuts. It's for programming Telrad Digitals.

Telrad remote software that brings up the files in DOS mode, I have it on lap tops now with 98 second edition which as you know has the DOS prompt. I would like to see if I could put it on my desktop so I can dial in and help out my tech when he has something he doesn't understand. My desktop has XP Pro and when I try to dial in from the exe file it goes in ok but shuts down after the Telrad modem answers. I can however dial in on the Hyper Term and it will answer but then I have no way to associate the file to look at the program and modify, change, save. Hope this makes sense I have been told that I can't do it but I don't give up that easily.

Setup a dual boot system on your desktop. If you really want to get fancy, boot to multiple OS's including DOS. I have that on a couple of my machines. Don't need to use if very often, but when I do, it sure is handy. If you set up another OS like Win 98, it won't need that much space provided you don't load anything big on it. If you want more info on how to set it up, let me know.

Well hold on, let's see if we can't set this up in XP.
Do this.
Go to Start > Run and run the command cmd.
That should give you a "dos" prompt.
Go ahead and CD to your desktop, or better yet (for ease of this) copy the TELRAD program to your hard drive root directory (ie. c:\telrad.exe) that way you don't have to fish around for it in the command promt (more than likely your desktop directory in XP is c:\documents and settings\your user name\desktop).
Anyhow.
After you're in the directory for the telrad program, go ahead and type it at the command prompt and run it (ie. telrad.exe and then enter).
Let it do it's thing, and regenerate that problem (where it connects and then the program closes). Instead of closing the window, it should keep the window open and HOPEFULLY provide us with an error message. See if you get an error message and let me know what it is.

Ok I will try that, I have thought of putting Dos or 98 sec. on the other drive. But I'll try the XP first and get the error code. I'll post what I get.
Thanks Russ

It connects with the system and stays connected but all I get is a 3 in the window and can't do anything else. It should say Connected online and bring up the menu.

a 3?
Explain that a bit better for me.
What happens when you hit CTRL-C after it locks?

It calls the Telrad then connects and gives me a 3 with the blinking curser after the 3, It then is unresponsive to anything. CTRL-C has no effect at all. I then have to just shut it down.
I think if there was a way to force the Telrad remote software to use the Hyperterm upon opening the program it could possibly work but that is where the problem lies.
