Maybe one of you IT wizards could help a phone guy?
I keep getting the windoze "critical" update asking me to install service pack 2 on my xp (home version) computer. It looks like I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to do this. I'm wondering what kind of horrors to expect, I've heard a few rumors about software that doesn't run etc.. Any tips on a safe easy way to install it would be appreciated. Or maybe I should continue to ignore the warning since SP1 seems to be just fine for me.

Well thanks Big. I thought more people would have an opinion on SP2 by now. I guess I'll do the kids puter first and see how it goes.

I upgraded my laptop with the sp2.

No issues here and I have Comdial and NEC software running on it.

Keep in mind this comes with the firewall turned on.

Also the new IE has a built in pop up blocker.

I use both IE and Firefox. Comdial needs IE on their CCC page.

I have experienced trouble with SP2 on a Dell computer with the intel celeron processor. Had to take the computer back to original configuration. Solved the problem with an upgrade to XP PRO. Dell probably has it figured out by now. It works fine on my brothers Compaq laptop with XP Home.

One of mine here is a Dell w/ celron, all are Dell, only one celron. I'm gonna have to do this sooner or later, the update pop's are making me crazy. Thank's for the heads up.

I have done the update sp2 on a number of desktops and laptops as well. I have had no problems at all with any of them.

I've done the upgrade on over 150 computers so far. Not too many issues, I would be ready to upgrade the system bios if it doesn't already have the latest version.

Every computer ought to be formatted and reloaded once a year. If you are getting ready to upgrade to SP2, maybe it is time to do a fresh install. Seems to work better that way. Load the OS, then SP2, then AV and apps.
