I just tried to install the backup utility for XP Home. Microsoft.com said that I needed to get the CD to activate the backup utility. I do not have this CD.

Is there anyway I can activate this utility without the CD? Is there a way to download the CD? I feel like I have already paid for the OS once. I would prefer not to do it again.

Is there a better option for system backups that you guys would recommend?

Do you still have the activation code? or is it printed on the PC? Easy to get a copy of XP but the activation code is the key.
I had to call MS once since I used the same code 4 times within a certain time period. Told them if their software wasn't so buggy I wouldn't have to reinstall it so often. Driver conflict that crashed the OS everytime :bang:

I do have the code. But not the CD. MS sent me to Toshiba, Toshiba told me that I would have to buy it because it was an OEM.

Any CD with XP will work. It does not have to be tied to your specific serial number. I use a OEM CD to take care of this stuff and never have any problems with it.

If you dont have the CD then borrow on from a friend, your not taking their licence, just borrowing the source files.

Check out this article on it: https://www.theeldergeek.com/backup_for_xp_home_edition.htm

DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON BUYING XP AGAIN!!!!... lol

also, look at Symantec Ghost 10.0 as a better backup option.
