Here's the deal - I had to replace my old laptop. Now I have a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1551. The serial port is a DB15. Anyone know if there is an adapter for connecting between a female DB9 and a female DB15?

Looked up the specs on a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1551 and it says you have a db-25f parallel port, a hd db-15f video, 3 USBs, audio jacks, and a couple of modular connectors for phone line and Ethernet. Does not mention any RS-232 serial ports. (my Acer Aspire has no RS-232 either.)

Found that out, Mike. I guess what I need is a USB to serial adapter so's I can get into the voice mails I'm supposed to be maintaining. My operations manager is supposed to be ordering one for me, and we'll see how that works. Thanks for your answer!

That’s because there is no serial port. You have mistaken the vga-out for a 15 pin serial connection.
You could try an usb to serial adapter, but these are very inconsistent and may not work as needed. I would buy a PCMCIA serial card; these are more likely to emulate serial connections with much more stability.

I use the same model Toshiba with a TripLite USB to serial adapter with no problems. In a pinch, I've even used one from Radio Shack with good results. You can find laptops that stll have serial connectors, but you have to pay more for them.
Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

JBean, those cheap adapters might work fine for windows programs, but there's a lot of phone & voicemail admin programs that are only available for DOS and the cheap adapters won't work. We use this one , seems to work good even for DOS programs.

Hi there, a better solution might be to get a pcmcia card serial port, they are much more relieable as they are real comm ports and can be set to the commport number that the software you are using requires. try looking on ebay cost about £10-£40 or about $20-$80. I have one, trust they work a treat
