I'll be going back to AVG when my current AV expires around mid-December.
This buddy of mine never updated his expired AV so I suggested and installed AVG on his computer and did a scan...his computer was infeeesssttteeedddddd...AVG found all kinds of viruses. He was surfing using I.E. going to freebie sites...enough said.

I've tried AVG before, but after 30 days it asks me to register and buy. Is this a truely free version?

There is a truly free version, but the "true free version" can be a bit hard to find. You were in the right spot, but you clicked on the commercial version download which is only free for 30 days.

Here's what you're looking for. https://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

BTW, the link changes from time to time.

Thanks for the post. I like AVG, and besides, who doesn't like free? smile
