Hey gang,

I was wondering if anybody has used the free version of 'Real VNC' - remote PC access - like 'pc anywhere' and 'go to my pc'.
If so where you content with the results...any problems?

I've never used Real VNC, but I have used TightVNC which is also free. I really like it. You don't even have to install the client software in order to access the server, you can just hit it with a web browser.

Thanks for the tip Larry.... I think I'll give that one a shot. Luckily I have two pc's setup at home (in the same room) so I can test and check it out pronto.

Real VNC is also accessible via WEB through Java. You have to use port 5900. I use the enterprise version, which allows you to authenticate VIA domain credentials and also encrypts.

I use Real VNC all the time. I went to a support shop for POS equipment last week and they were using UltraVNC. Just started playing it myself.

We use RealVNC EXTENSIVELY. We use it along with VPN to access networks everywhere we maintain a system, and always have a dedicated workstation on the phone switch. We even run RealVNC on our PDAs so in a worst case scenerio we can stop at a Whataburger with our Ipaqs, VPN to the site and VNC to the server, VM, phone switch, or workstation with issues.

We also use realvnc when remote desktop is not available. Only issue I have with the free version si that it does not encrypt the traffic (paid versions do). It is a bit slower than other programs such as remote desktop, or pcAnywhere, but works just as well.

I went with the TightVNC ....works pretty cool.. unfortunately I have the 'slower dsl' 768/384 kbps ..so 'things' were kind of on the slow side..

As I am sure many of you are aware RealVNC > 4.1.2 has a vulnerability that allowed an attacker to gain access to a password protected VNC server without any credentials. This does not apply to the Enterprise edition.

I'm another one who uses real VNC. Nice, small footprint application. You can run the viewer app from a floppy disk.
