Anyone familiar with working with relationships between tables and forms with linked tables and subforms. I have some questions and would gladly pay for some support on getting through a project I am working on.

Also whats a good source for learning SQL

The Microsoft Official Academic Course books are decent enough. The books I've worked with all come with lab manuals. https://ca.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-047006966X.html

I haven't worked with Access in about 2 years, but I might be able to jog my memory. If you want to email your files and questions to me I can see what I can do this evening.

Are you locked into Access? I used to work with dBase - mostly with their DOS version but I did some work with their Windows products.

It was a lot cleaner than Access for my money.

I'll help ya Merritt, when ya got time?

Learning access will help you get a basic understanding of SQL such as Tables, Relationships, SQL Queries, etc. It'd be like taking an SQL 101 class.

Sam I have been working with dBase sine DBII then went to Foxbase then FoxPro but my programs won't run with XP so I want to move my files to Access.

What I I'm working on at this point is I have the following tables

calls
address
customer
invoices
material_sold

I want to have one form that views the info from all the tables that relate to that customer. I am having trouble getting all the data to show from each table.

Well, it'd take me 3-pages to explain it, or I can show ya pretty quickly on your computer. smile

Anyways, if you click on the title bar of the form, and open the properties dialog box, there should be an option to set the form source. This is where you can add tables and create relationships.

If you have global relationships (like calls will always relate to a customer), then you want to define those in the database itself, and it will inherit to the forms.

I'm running dBase IV for DOS and dBase 5.7 for Windows on XP now. Correction: Actually, I haven't run the WIndows one in a while, but I did run it for about a year.

No problems.

Sam

But if James will show you Access - go for it. Personally I hate it, but I've been spoiled.
