I have a HP LaserJet 1020 printer. I am running Vista on my Toshiba Satellite P305-S8820. I am getting the following error message:

Spooler Subsystem App stopped working and was closed. A problem cause the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.

I am also intermittenly not seeing my network printers as well. Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you're not seeing your printers, it's likely the print spooler crashed. The reasons are numerous, but the starting point is always going to be the Event Viewer. You can also just try restarting the print spooler as well, as it may be a random crash and just needs to be brought back up.

To restart it, click Start, in the search box, type Services.msc, then hit enter. Scroll down on the right hand side until you find Print Spooler, then right click and it and click Start.

The Event Viewer is going to be your biggest clue as to figuring out what's going on with it. Could be a number of different things.

Complete noob.

If there's network printers involved, it's sometimes good to stop the Print Spooler Service manually. Start>>Run>>cmd>>net stop spooler (or you can stop it from the services console in control panel)

Then navigate to c:\windows\system32\spool\printers

in there there may be a few print jobs that are gumming up the spool delete everything in that folder.

then restart the spooler service

net start spooler

See if it remains stable
