Put me down for 50-50. Been there, done that. Try changing users in admin first. If the new user works, then your chances will increase significantly.

After almost two months, I finally got my transfer of ownership on my Dell, dude.

That's possible to do but you must use a Dell OEM version of XP and the same version of XP. As long as you use a Dell OEM you wont even have to use the product key. The COA is irrelevant as OEM installations use a SLP table to identify the laptop model and if it matches the OEM CD then it pre activates. The COA should say what version of XP is on it but you can also tell by booting up and going to my computer properties. What problem are you having by the way??

tito, i recently experienced the blue screen of death.i took my unit to a local repairman who i have confidence in because i wanted to try to retrieve some hard drive data.

1. i'm having difficulty reinstalling my hp printer
i'm having difficulty reinstalling a dell usb modem.

2. when i boot, i'm asked whether i want to use
windows xp or windows xp.

i thought perhaps that a format and clean reinstall of xp would improve things, plus i crave the experience of a successful reinstall

Do you know if the recovery partition is intact? If so I would go that route and make life a lot simpler for you.

You can edit the file C:\windows\boot.ini to make the Windows or Windows boot question go away.
