Hello.

Has anyone tested the Samsung IP phones from a remote location? Its kind of cool that you can dial an extension on the network remotely.

What hardware is needed for your iDCS 500?

New processor card, new misc card, voip gatway, etc?

Can anyone tell me the quality or comparison of the following:

1. Samsung's New IP phone(VOIP)
2. Vonage(VOIP) trunk using the C1 trunk card.?
3. iDCS 500 networked to idcs 100 via Internet(VOIP).

I'm trying to find which one of these would be best(or least expensive). Most likely Samsung IP phones vs Vonage trunk.

Is the IP phone or networked systems quality worse then when accessing a trunk remotely via DISA?

Thanks.

In other posts you said you wanted a system for your house that has one line. Many many systems were spoken about where you want such esotaric things as caller ID routing a call to a particular extension.

Unless you were an eccentric millionare, you would not be not be interested in the features of a 500 for one line in your house.

I wish you luck in your quest for the ultimate end result.

I think you are misunderstanding the difference between the Vonage and the Samsung system. You can get a telephone dial tone from Vonage through their VoIP technology. With the Samsung they dont provide the dial tone, they use a dial tone to connect to. I know I'm not making much sense. Oh wells.

I think I might have confused someone.

My office building ALREADY has an iDCS 500.

I'm looking for a phone system for my house which is in another state. and about 4 days drive from my office. I am going to be doing a lot of remote work and I will need to contact people in my office all the time. There are a few ways to do that.

1. Vonage with unlimited long distance.

2. iDCS 100 R2 that can network with the idcs 500 in my office.

3. Samsung IP phone in my house and upgrade the idcs 500 to Release 2.

My choices for a home phone system are:

1. Panasonic 824
2. Samsung idcs 100 R1
3. Samsung idcs 100 R2
4. Samsung DCS prostar
5. Samsung DCS Compact.

I hope this makes it easier to understand.

Thanks.

Oh ok I get it now. I think the best bet would be to upgrade your system in your office to a release 2 cabinet and then slap in an MGI card and use a remote IP phone in your house.

But if you absolutely need a phone system in your house then get a iDCS100 R2 and IP network it to the one in your office.

Use the MGI-3 card if you need up to 8 channels, NEVER use a Telekol VM...TOO MANY Digital Rules problems........
Throw-out the Panasonic
Compact is great for home small business's.
SooprmanX has the right idea, per your requested application.
...a 4 day drive to your office?! Get a private jet.

Its actual a vacation home that I'm looking to spend about 5 months out of the year. The phone system is used more of an intercom system for room-to-room calls. If someone has a call, I can just put them on park, then page everyone in the house. Its sure better then screaming for the person to answer the phone. Most people up there have Panasonic however since my office already has Samsung, I was thinking that maybe I could get a Samsung and network it. At very least with a Samsung, I know what it can do from using it in my office.

I was wondering if any of you guys have experience the quality of the system-to-system calls? Would it be about the same as Vonage or does it depend on your bandwidth?

If its not that good but you don't want to say something bad in this forum. You can PM me if you would like. I just would not want to spend thousands of dollars to network the systems if the quality was not as good as Vonage.

I do know with Vonage, I can call a special
DID number off the office PRI line which goes directly into the voicemail system 24/7.

My voicemail system lets me dial the extension number to directly call an extension.

So basically with speed dial programmed to a button and LCR program to always use the Vonage trunk.

It could just be a 2 step process.

On the reverse side, I could have my office phone forward all intercom calls to an external number(vacation house). So I guess there are options both ways.

Thanks for your help.

I have two phone system IP networked and they are about 4 hours away. For intercom calls and everything it works great with little to no difference in sound. But, if you do that it all depends on not only your bandwidth but your two ISP's onn each side. If you have Cable internet from one provider at your house and DSL from another provider at your office then it has to go out onto the public internet, cross onto the other providers network then to the system. There is no way to make sure that the calls stay clear that way. If at all possible, get the same provider of internet at each location and you will save yourself a lot of truble.

Thank, that is very helpful information.

The house will be using Comcast high speed broadband internet 6Mbps/768K.

My office has XO T1 at 1.5/1.5 Mbps.

So since XO and Comcast have different networks, there is no guarantee on the quality of service of the voice calls?

Maybe the

1. vonage-to- office voicemail-to extension and
2. Forward intercom calls-to-external number(house)

would be a better option?

Also, have you tried the Samsung remote IP phones? Does the same rules apply to the quality of service described above?

Thanks.
