I use the above racks in places where we don't need or don't have space to mount a 7' relay rack. They work out very nice. Here is a picture of one with a 48 port Cisco switch mounted in it. https://www.geocities.com/mikeydidit2007/after.JPG

I dislike mounting switches or other devices with the jacks facing up, unless it is in an enclosure.. It is an invitation to collect crud in the jacks.

Better to mount them facing sideways, with the exhaust fans (if so equipped) at the top.

Some devices have the holes for the rack ears positioned so that you can turn the ears, and use them to mount the device flat against the board, using suitable screws. This works if you only have one device to mount.

What I did at the the old Torrance Operator building looks like it would fit and give you scads of room:

If not enough depth, mount the jacks in a swing out and any electronics sideways, sort of like THIS

Deejaydaze:

Sorry I missed your earlier question about my setup at home. Here are the dimensions:

Wall to front face of switch: 8"
Depth of wall bracket: 6"
Depth of switch itself: 6.5"

You would still probably need to allow for about an additional 2" of depth to protect the patch cords, so this setup would probably work in an instance where you have 10-12" of depth from the wall available. The rack mounting brackets on my switch allow it to be adjusted about 3/4" closer to the wall, so it could be as shallow as 7 1/4" if you really want to push it.

Remember that I'm not using a quality switch. It's just a plain old Unicom 16 port unit. I'm sure that's why it is so shallow.

How do you all recommend terminating these swing wall mount racks?

Obviously with the swing open and some slack, but not much?

I had to punch down all my cables really quick for the final inspection, but I'd like to change the way it looks.

I've learned that it takes a nice design to get the most of the room I have.

For right now I've just come in through the drop ceiling, through a chase, down to the floor (because I knew I was going to re-terminate)

I guess I'll take a picture tomorrow. It's hard to explain.

I need answers...
