I always discourage customers from using the Outside Dial Tone Preference option. One reason for that is because I think the system works MUCH better when you pick up to Intercom (add a Headset button into the mix, and it's CRAZY to set Outside Dial Tone Preference). Another reason is because pressing the Transfer button to get to Intercom dial tone is confusing (after all, it doesn't say "Intercom" on the button).

Since we have so many programmable buttons with the 48-button phone, why not give us a programmable Intercom button. Worst case is we don't use it. However, for those customers who insist on Outside Dial Tone Preference, I would definitely program an Intercom button, if nothing more than for the benefit of having a labeled "Intercom" button.

Wait a minute. I just remembered. Doesn't a DSS button for your own extension accomplish the same thing? I'm not sure I've ever tried this when using Outside Dial Tone Preference, so I can't say for sure. If that's true, scratch this Enhancement idea.

A DSS button for your own extension calls your own mailbox (or whatever your forward destination is).

I've never had a customer that really HAD to have off hook preference to dial tone, but I agree that a programmable DSS key for Intercom would be an asset.
