I have a customer who is using VIP. When they take their PC home it appears that VIP is causing issues with the PC.

Anyone had any similar experiences?

Is there a simple way to disable / shut down VIP when the PC isn't connected to the network with the KSU?

Yea, when you remove the PC from the LAN VIP is still trying to communicate so you get a bunch of error pop-ups. You need to give them instruction on how to disable VIP in Outlook when off site.

Outlook 2003

to disable VIP
in the drop down menu bar choose:

>Tools
>Options
>Other [tab]
>Advanced Options [button]
>COM Add-Ins... [button]
>uncheck the VIP box choose OK [button]

To enable: check the the VIP box

Outlook 2007 is a bit different but similar. I don't have my notes on it. I'm sure someone else here does.

Good luck!

It would be nice if ESI could implement a new feature that would detect the IP of the system and if it doesn't appear to be on the same sub-net then VIP would be automatically disabled. The only time this wouldn't work would be if someone used a 192.168.1.xxx subnet at the office and at home (wireless routers at both locations), but otherwise this would solve the problem for most of the user base.

You can use the remote option in VIP if you set up their router for remote use (just a simple NAT entry). Go to Tools/Options/ VIP tab/ settings /delivery mode to set it for remote use. The remote option can also work within your office depending on your firewall, so you may be able to keep it on remote all the time.
