Well, history repeated. The "old" AT&T also said it no longer needed residential customers and we saw what happen to them. Fast, not long term money seems to be the name of the game. Thanks for sharing Dexman.

Anyone want to guess how long it will be before Fairpoint is bought out by AT&T?

Fairpoint has been buying the smaller LECs in Maine now this will make them one of the 3 biggest in the state

Merritt - remember a company called Vitts Networks? They were a DLEC (data only LEC) based in NH that was in Maine around 2001 until they folded. I was their NY rep for six months until they went under.

The details that I read in the paper today are interesting. It appears that Verizon mainly wants to cut administrative costs. They are splitting the land line service into a subsidiary, which will then merge with and be administerred by Fairpoint. Inerestingly, Verizon will get a controlling stock interest in Fairpoint with the merger.

Sounds like Verizon wants the money but not the responsibility.

I just hope that the employees' jobs will be stable during the forcasted shifting around. Is there an end to this madness...this crazy carnival ride? It's like the major telcos don't even have to "compete" for their customer base anymore, they just plain ol' BUY their customers.

Sorry to vent..hopefuly, one day, I may better understand this crazy industry.
