When we call in from the outside to check messages. During the greeting we press * and the system says "thanks for calling goodbye"

Is there an easy way to get this feature tuned back on, so we can check messages from the outside

Are you hitting a branch id / main greeting or a mailbox greeting??

Try hitting an 8 when it answers and see what happens.

When I press 8 I get thank you for calling our office is closed in observance of a holiday and sounds like a system recording

You are being answered by a mailbox ..... in order to check a message from outside you need to be at the main greeting so just press 8 to get to a greeting then retrieve messages with * and extension number.

Are you checking the voicemail local or remotely?
