What response should the maid get from the PBX after dialing the maid-in-room code (eg. *70 2)? Se currently get dial tone and the PMS folks say they are not seeing anything coming from the PBX.

I believe that dial tone is correct; I don't think there's a confirmation tone. You should get reorder (fast busy) if the code's not working.

first, never trust the PMS people. If this is an ICP, then you're probably using Precidia iPockets to convert IP to serial for PMS. Go to the output of the iPocket (the serial side) and connect a laptop with a terminal emulator (Hyperterminal or Procomm).

With the laptop set to the same serial settings (such as 9600/8/n/1 or 1200/7/2/e, whatever)you should see clear legible text come across when the maid enters the code. It will usually be a string of digits.

If you get odd characters, the serial settings are wrong. If you get nothing, check the IP and serial settings of the iPocket, and check forms 34 and 32 at the ICP.

If you get a legible outpulse of readable digits -- somewhere in there will be the room number, for example -- then tell the PMS people that they're full of it. Either their serial settings are wrong, or else their serial port is locked up.

I had this happen once, and it turned out that when the motel manager was trying to put a room OOO, she was actually deleting it from the database. So of course when the "Room is Clean" code came across, the PMS would say, "What room? 302? We ain't got no 32!"

Were you able to resolve this by checking the iPocket output to serial?
