Hey Dave

What model handsets are you running?
DKT35xx handsets did suffer from hook switch issues and was a simple unsolder and resolder a replacement.
If you made a hands free call and then picked up the handset it would cut off.

Anyway just my experience.

Regards
Carl

The phone hook switch would be my guess as well, especially if the users do not have the same problem while on speakerphone. Just replace all the bad phones.

i dont remember the model but most are the from the era the dk ksus came out. i wasnt thinking it was the phones are the problem becuase all users are having calls dropped. only the one guy tried going on speakerphone to see if it quit dropping and that did solve the problem. no one else had tried going on speakerphone but i recomended they try it for now to see what results they get.

In the US the phones for the Straata DK system were the DKT-2000 series phones. Toshiba acknowledged that phones manufactured in specific years had an issue with the hook switch.

It would seem pretty odd that in an office that every phone suddenly developed a problem at the same time, but I don't think that is the case. While we ave to listen to the user's descriptions of the problem, I don't think the customers always make the best troubleshooters. When they say 'All; users, it could mean more then a couple people that use the phone a lot.

On the other hand both me an Carl were focusing on the user that seemed to have solved the problem by using the speakerphone. Maybe that user just got lucky once or twice then started to give himself high-fives because he just fixed the problem.

Outside the hook switch issue it could be either carrier problems, or the PBX incorrectly disconnecting from a CPC signal.

Back to the hook switch, then next question to see if this is a possible hook switch problem, besides having everyone use speakphone, is to find out what happens after the call disconnects. A hook switch problem will usually cause the phone to hang up the call then go immediately to the Intercom key. This depends on the normal off-hook preference if the normal if normally the phone goes to the Intercom key when going off-hook.

If the line drops and the phone goes back to on-hook idle, then maybe it is something with the disconnect release supervisions signal.

My money's on the hookswitch... I keep a handful of them on my truck, and usually replace a number of them each year at some of my older sites. I get 'em at Sandman.

they said when it drops the light stays lit. i would have thought that pointed to the tel co if it werent for the speakerphone working. i think i may loan them a good phone to see what happens.
