IP phone UDP information can be saved using the Trace function. The manual says little else. Can the Trace host be any machine? What port should be used? How and where is the information saved?

We typically use a program called Wireshark to log specific port information for troubleshooting. Depending on if the phone is connected to an Axxess or a 5000. Axxess starts at UDP ports 5004 for the first connected call and goes up. The 5000 starts at UDP port 6004 and up.

For Wire Shark I've always attached my pc to a HUB, the device and the network to the hub. Then I'm watching throught the hub.

Inter-Tel has a Trace utility which listens to phones programmed to point to it. Port 5568.

It used to be on their FTP server. I don't see it there any longer. Try calling Tech Support. It's called IP Device Debug Viewer.

For IP sets with relatively new firmware (which you can request from your dealer if you need to flash the phones) you can connect to the IP set with a web browser (on port 10000 I think), enter a login (which you should get from your dealer or unless it is against some rule I could PM it to you) then you will see an option for 'port monitoring' or maybe it is called 'mirroring'.

What this does is for that IP phone, copy all of the network IP packets to the PC ethernet port on the IP phone. Now you can connect a network interface on a PC running wireshark to the PC connector on the IP phone and monitor all the traffic sent/received for that IP phone. The monitoring lasts until the IP set is reset.

Thank you guys. I was able to obtain a copy of the IP Device Debugger program. It's pretty slick. But I honestly don't know how to make sense of the information. Is there any documentation beyond the onboard help files?
