I guess BellSouth would be the first place to start. A few years back when South Carolinia got hit pretty hard, we sent out a message to BellSouth, GTE and the independents that were affected. BellSouth and GTE never responded, but one independent "Home Telephone Company" did.
We offered to send a crew with a bucket truck to cut damaged cable down or whatever we could do to assist. Home's manager of operations thanked us immensely, but ended up not needing us.
It seems that the Bells and larger independents don't really take too kindly to outsiders trying to help. I am not quite sure why.
------------------ Ed --------- How come there's always enough time to go back and fix it a second time?

WAY TOO SOON......
I have been keeping touch with this........From what I am reading they are saying its gonna take a month or 2 or 3 just to pump out the water in the city......
I could only imagine what those CO's must look like.......
I am more interested in what the casinos are gonna do.....

Opps I forgot to add........REMEMBER February is Mardi Gra.......
I would think the hotels, motels, and entertainment industries are the first to go after......
But I would imagine they would want local business to service them FIRST......

True, but there are vast areas that suffered less damage and minimal flooding. Huge areas of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana with wind and tree damage.
I'd imagine those places will try to rebuild immediately, especially considering they'll be likely staging/living areas for crews headed to the coast.

well you guys,
with as much respects as possible, when the terrorist attack on Sept. 11 happened many companies (and one comes to mind: [The American Red Cross]) needed phone systems for emergency calling and for their dispatching. I [with another group] am raising money to help rebuild, and we are sending the money to the American Red Cross HQ since we cant make it out there to help with wiring, installing, etc. by the way, has anyone heard how long Marshall Law is going to last down there?

Topher:
I think that martial law will last as long as necessary. New Orleans has now tipped over the edge and become the equivalent of a third world country. This is an issue of people looting stores not for staple items, like water, bread and diapers. They are stealing liquor and cigarettes and shooting at rescue personnel for interfering. It makes it difficult to have sympathy or to help.
I even heard from a friend down there that police officers were going around and "completely" breaking out glass doors and windows to protect those looting the stores from injury. To serve and protect; they are doing their jobs, I suppose.
