Good day,

I've stumbled on this forum when making a search on Google for supporting/maintaining/playing/etc with a Nortel Meridian phone and I’m (of course) looking for some insight or pointers on how to proceed.

Our Nortel CallPilot release is 02.01.27 (retrieved from CallPilot Manager > Server Settings), some of the phones we have are NT9K08AC, NT9K18AC93 and NT2N24AD2121.

Would it be appropriate for me to go over the situation I’m in, then proceed with questions to this board members?

I would like to get things done myself when possible but I’m a bit at loss on where to look, both on the internet and in our “telecom” room.

Thank you.

Both at the same time would be best. Also include your experience & qualifications with Nortel equipment.

Keep in mind we will only divulge "End User" help...not installer info.

Proper "Model" numbers of the phones might help as well...such as M7310, M7208, T7316e, etc. in lieu of "NT9K08AC, NT9K18AC93 and NT2N24AD2121"

Judging by the part numbers you've supplied you are using an Nortel Option xx. Programing a Nortel PBX is not for the faint of heart.

We will need details on which system you are using and what software version is installed.

Please feel free to post your question. We answer user questions freely, however installer level programming questions are answered from a what to do rather than how to perspective.

MooreTel and telemarv, thank you for your time. I will let the members decide what is end user and installer information and keep it at that, it is already appreciated to have ANY assistance.

The most common phones we have are Nortel Meridian M2008 and M8009. I do not have training in any Nortel products and my experience in Nortel products stop at managing the CallPilot on the software side (Adding/Deleting/Moving mailboxes and user account, call forwarding and such).

From what I could gather we have a Nortel Option 11.

I’ve inherited the support of a Nortel CallPilot along with a few meridian phones of different generations, as listed above. The reason why it has been given to me is the nature of the system, “it’s a computer/phone thingy… you take care of it!” Our company when thru a downsize after being sold off in a fire sale; we went from being 40 to 22 and I’m the sole IT/technical person left. We’re in the chemicals for textile business.

The service contract to maintain/administer the system was thru a third party company (BlackBox Network out Montreal, Canada) and was not renewed in November as the budget is not there for now. The couple of K that was charged to maintain the system annually and “guarantee” us someone to assist within 24H seemed excessive to me, I was advised last week that it had fallen in my hands.. Mind you, the service contract was just for having access to someone, we were still charged on an hour basis after. Perhaps that is the norm in the telecom industry; if that is the case I apologize for my comment.

I am still awaiting details on what configuration we had from our service vendor, password, remote connectivity (I Know it’s accessible by modem ATM). Anything to get an idea of the system.

I’ve been asked to modify a phone with two DN so that after 5 rings it should also ring on a speaker. I believe the speaker is akin to the radio option so it can be heard in the warehouse. It also needs the capability to be answered from any phone by calling a two digit number from any phone in the office. This setup is already active for one our phone so all I would need to do would be to duplicate the configuration for those additional lines.

From what I've found I'll probably have something to do with a Special Prefix Code (SPRE) or a Flexible Feature Codes (FFC).

Thank you.

You'll have to look at the config of a set that does what you want. What you are requesting is the info in the FDN and RNPG field. As my esteemed Canadian colleagues Marv and Dave have said..this is a big project to jump into.

Thanks for dropping by RATHER BE FISHING.

The more I'm reading up the more it reminds me of programming a VAX, this forum along Tek-Tips has given me a few clue of what to look at passively.

But it is a big project and I'm still debating with myself over it.

Thanks again, I'll keep reading.
