I'm posting this as a service to future subscribers who may run into the same problem I recently had:

Backing-up an MICS using a FastRad and NRU 11. Removed my trusty FastRad from the truck (with serial cable still attached from last use) and connected it to the MICS & laptop. MICS recognized the FastRad, no problem. Followed the FastRad programming procedure, no problem.

Attempted to connect...no deal. "FastRad unable to connect" was the message I kept getting.

Over the next HOUR AND A HALF, I tried everything possible. Communication settings, FastRad settings, re-boot, re-program, etc., etc., etc. Swapped out the FastRad with another unit. Switched computers. Threatened the FastRad with a loaded .45

Nada. Nothing. Nyet. "FastRad unable to connect" was all I got.

Finally, a (very dim) :idea: lightbulb goes off in my head. Swapped the serial cable for another...

Connected within 2 seconds flat... :rolleyes:

Was it a cross over serial cable you tried using?

I don't know. Apparently I (must have?) used the cable in the past as it was still connected to the FastRad I carry with me on the truck. I can only assume the cable failed.
