I have a microsoft VPN setup on my laptop (XP pro) every time I click on Internet Explorer it connects me to the VPN connection. Any way to stop it from doing it automatically? I use Netscape normally, that works fine, but IE brings it up every time.

Yes, easiest way go into Explorer, Internet options, connections. Adjust the connect to allow you to select it. That easy.

I have looked at that, nothing to change except to delete the connection out of my Dial up VPN option, which deletes it completly off my computer.

Are you connecting through lan or ugh dial-up? I have seen IE do strange things like this before and have reran internet connection wizard generally located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard and this has fixed them.

Try and go into network neighborhood and disabling what you don't want to use.

If you have "never dail a connection" selected, it shouldn't try the VPN.
