I believe you can (if not someone will chime in).
18D and 34D sets are commonly used to program a Partner system. The Partner ACS's documentation will have diagrams of which buttons do what when you go to program the system using various system phones.
As long as any other extension(s) you might add, later on, to the system uses a 6,12 or 18 button set, you should be good.
