We are considering upgrading our old Merlin Magix phone system. Current system consists of 2 cabinets that include 1 processor card, 3 each 024 TDL cards, 3 each 016 T/R cards, 1 GS/LS ICL10 card (for music on hold if I understand correctly), and 1 each DS1 (T1 interface) card. We have 50 or so phones, including about 10 4424LD+, 25 4412D+, and the rest 4406D+ and a few non-display phones. We have about 6 analog modems and fax lines that go through the switch. We also have an old Octel VM system with 12 ports. Our service is T1 coming in over fiber. We have a block of 100 DID numbers. Are there upgrade options that would allow us to use most of our existing phones and thus keep the cost down? Ball park price on new system including VM system? Any new features the upgrade would allow us that the Magix/Octel cannot do, such as full caller ID, reporting, etc? (Anything to help me convince the boss would be helpful). Lastly, would need support in the Wichita, KS area.

Avaya IP Office will support all of the 4400 series display phones except 4424LD+. The non-display phones are a question... IP Office is a very full-featured system that does most anything you'd need. Your very best bet is to find a local Avaya business partner to work out the details. Mike

According to tech support, the 4400's are supported only up to the 406V2. I don't know if this is correct. Has anyone used 4400's series on IP Office 500

My first IPO install was an IP 500 running 4.2 and the 4400's are still working like a champ. They are no longer support as of around R6.1? I will have to see if we have any around the shop when I get in in the morning to see if work fine on our R7.

One more thing regarding the 4400 sets on the IP 500 is that they must be on expansion modules, not directly on the control unit. Also, I believe that due to the power requirements that only up to 24 will work on a 30 port expansion unit.

Strange, twice tech supported told me 4406D+ would create problems. It seems we can't get a clear answer on this.

Any 44XX will work, even the LD (you just won't have the display on the LD). It's all good............!
