I am moving a Data Range Comm System (DRCS) from one site to another. It has 3 racks with 4 shelfs of equipment in each rack. They are all connected via a ribbon cable, then wire wrapped with a 25 pair cble then connected via a amphenol extension port(just a small board to extend the cables). Then it goes to a QCP panel, and x connected out thru another amphenol cable to a MDF terminal block. Then it goes out via a krone block to a 1500 pair cable.
We have to remove the rectifier and battery plant before we can touch the DRCS. Once the Alt power is up, we can then start to dismantle the cabinets and trace and lable all the cables and what not. The problem is we cant do any tracing because everything is very tight and we'd have to cut about 4000 tie straps. (this building and equip is like from the 60 and 70's). Never seen half of this stuff. So basically, we are moving the entire racks from site A to site B. Once at site B we are running the amphenol cables to new 110 blocks, then xconnected to the individual users. The worst part is we are on a time crunch. I need to get this done asap. I am going back out to the site sunday. Is there any other way I could start getting this stuff ready to move without taking the DRCS down?

Oh one more thing, the customer is very stubborn about their setup. They won't change it or let us design it differently.

Not to sound like a smart ass but this sounds like a question you should be asking the person who did the prefield on moving the equipment .

This is a bit different than most moves but it does sound like some of the temp. set-ups we did for Sprint while prepping for digital conversion from step. No way around cutting the ties, tracing, and tagging. I doubt that it went in that long ago --- we were still stitching back then. What you have is why the telcos were so anal about marking EVERYthing. Write everything down, take pictures before, and don't forget to ground the racks --- and bond everything in sight. Good luck, and after this move you will know why there are no atheists moving racks!!! KLD

A job like that on a tight time frame with a PIA account? The money would need to be really good to offset that stress factor.

Everything is at premium time. There is no realistic estimate of time that can be made.

lol. The 25 pair cables are being run as we speak. The only main concern is the xconnects. Basically making sure that the 110 is connected correctly to the osp 1500 pr. its actually coming together. Only as of a meeting yesterday with the big wigs, they moved up the testing completion date up a month, ouch
