i ran into a system today with a wyse terminal on an SX200L G1005. There is no ESC key, you know how you have to hit ESC+8 to disable an COS option. well there is no eSc key, and i kept trying all of the F1-F14 keys and so forth. nothing worked. i thought about re-setting the terminal and reconfiguring it to get ESC to work, all i needed to do was disable one COS option, I don't know how I got it done, but I did.

Anyone know what the trick is with a WYSE terminal and the SX200 system?

There is a set-up option in the terminal itself which allows you to program function keys and terminal emulations. Go into that and it will step you through it.

i have run accross the terminals that don't have a physical esc key, usually it is one of the function keys. the ones i've seen have a desi typ strip above the function keys and i think its around F8.

You can also try this key sequence ctl]A
(Control right bracket and then Uppercase A. If I'm remembering my esc sequences correctly, that should do it.
