Need some help. Am working with someone trying to do some remote work on 200sx IPC They have a US Robtics hooked up to the maintenance port on that end. The dip switch settings on their modem are set to the same I have used other locations on other ELs, etc. I can connect to the modem but cannot talk to the PBX. I have tried with and without null modem connector and I have tried error corrected and non error corrected connections - no luck. The person on the other end is not really a phone person but follows directions well. Any suggestions. Is the Mitel looking for voltage on a specific pin to bring the port high? Also this is a brand new PBX install. Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Thanks,

Dane

Make sure that the modem is set to auto-answer. Make sure that they're connecting to the maintenance port, not the printer port. The modem's TR light should light when connected to the ICP. Finally, be sure that no one is connecting through the console at the same time.

Thanks for posting TG. I have already done all those things. The modem connects and sysnc up but I cannot talk tot he switch. Settings on modem now are the same as I have used before on this particular modem to talk to ELs and 200Ds etc. Just wondered if there was something particualr about this IPC switch.

I connect through the serial port regularly, and a modem, technically, just extends a serial port... You might try reinitializing the modem with AT codes...

You have to "lock" the modem in at 9600 8n1.
Connect your laptop to the serial port on the modem (9600 8n1), put switches 1,3,5,7,8 in the down position, turn on the modem and enter the following command:
ATS0=1&B1&N670&WO.
Turn off the modem, put 1 and 4 down, all the others up, and power the modem back on!
Be sure to use a null adapter between the modem and the ICP.

make sure you shutdown & reboot the system.
The reason why is they get stuck on the reboot. there is a particular initialization you are suppose to use for modems attached to SX-200ICP's.
If it doesn't get stuck on the reboot, your good to go.
If it does do a search on mitel online for the document to fix the modems.

Follow the instructions below to end your frustrations.

WWW.GENESIS-COMMUNICATIONS.BIZ
WARNING: ALL “AT” COMMANDS HAVE 0’S (ZEROES) NOT O’S(OH’S) IN THEM!!!
Step 1: Verify your USR 33.6 or 56K V.92 modem register bits are setup as follows. To determine the modem's current settings, connect the modem to a laptop at 9600 8N1 Flow Control = none with a null modem cable (pinouts are below). Before powering on the modem, set dip switches 1,3 and 8 down, the rest of them up.
Type ATI4, then press your enter key. After pressing your enter key, the modem’s current settings will be displayed. Depending on which modem you are using you will want to set them up according to the settings listed below for that modem type.

S41=000 S42=000

Step 2: Now that you can see your modem’s settings, it is time to alter the register to match this information sheet, type the command prefix AT, followed by the register letter and desired value. For example, if the modem had register F set to 0, register X set to 4 and register &N set to 0, those registers need to change. (The example registers are highlighted in bold lettering.)
You can change each register individually: By typing ATF1, then press your enter key F0 will change to F1. AT is the beginning of the modem command, F is the register value, and 1 is the number you are changing it to.
ATX1, then press your enter key.
AT&N6, then press your enter key.

Or combine the necessary changes into one command:

ATF1X1&N6, then press your enter key.

Step 3: Then the changes must be saved to the modem's memory: To do this type AT&W0, then press your enter key. Then type ATI4 again to confirm the changes were made.

When confirmed, power off the modem, set switches 1 and 4 down, the rest of them up.

Step 4: Verify the cable to be used between the ICP/EL and the modem. You will need two cables with the USR 33.6 and V.92 modems.

Cable Number 1: (to program the modem from your laptop, a null modem cable must be used and your dip switches must be set to 1, 3, and 8 down all others up.)
