Hello everyone,

I've got a bit of a conundrum on my hands here. I'm a bit new to Mitel phone systems and I'm trying to figure out how to connect audio from a music on hold device to a Mitel phone system.

I am not at the location and I am getting the information second hand. This is the information I have been given by the maintenance director of the facility:

"I have two components in the telephone room that look like a PC tower that has “Mitel SX 2000 Light” on the front. On top of these two units is a “Mitel 3300 MX Controller”. "

Specifically what I'm trying to determine is where is the audio going to enter the phone system for Music on Hold? I find references to needing an E&M card for the SX2000 but I can't find what kind of imput this card has, whether it is RCA, 1/8th inch, punchdown, or what.

I have been told that Mitels are punchdown but I'm not finding confirmation of that.

Can anyone help out a guy scratching his head in confusion?

Hey, thanks vad60.

I was able to find a manual for the 3300 online, and it indicates that, this being an MX model, it has embedded analog and has an audio jack on the back.

Now I've got to find out if they have an I.T. guy who programs the system, or if they have a vendor do it, so we can get the system programmed for MOH.

A thought occurs to me. If for some reason we can't get the system programmed, we could split the audio coming out of the MOH unit into 2 audio cords and run an audio cord to each SX2000's E&M card. (If they have them). And interestingly enough, this brings me back to my original question. What is the imput type of the E&M card of an SX2000? Anyone know?

?? E&M = Ear & Mouth. Tie line card. NOT MOH input. John C.

The SX2000's originally used an E&M Card to connect the MOH input.
I think you set the card to a type 5, strapped the E lead to the M lead, did a little programming, then reset the peripheral bay card.
The 3300 does have the audio input jack built in the rear of the cabinet.

Man, leave it to Mitel to do it the hard way! What was that, 'oops, we forgot to design a MOH input'? Or, 'we can't sell E & M cards, lets use 'em for MOH and empty the warehouse'? John C.

MOH has come a long way with Mitel. On the SX200s, they originally used a MOH module on the Universal Card, then started using a DMP unit (which connects to a digital station port, then finally offered it as an analog station port in... was it LW 19.0?

Now, both the ICP controller and the 3300 controller offer it as a straight-up audio jack.

And WWWAAAAYYYYY back on the 200 analog, It was just a pair on a punch block, no programming involved. John C.
