I have a customer that will have two hotels across the parking lot from each other an would like to utilize of course, one phone system..... They will be having vm/call accounting/pms..They will be New Hotels not exsisting....I figured It best to ask the experts here....Ok blonde here, so be nice....My thinking is that there would be an ext. conflict, but if I can head that off at the path or if I am wrong, let me know....Do our experts here know of any other problems I might encounter....I would appreciate all the feed back you can give......

You can defeat the problem of ext numbering by going to a 4 digit numbering plan, but that is not where your problem is going to be. The problem will be in the pms and call accounting systems. How can you connect 2 of these to one pbx? Can't work as far as I can see.

The call accting wouldn't be too tough, just 2 outputs and program each unit to only price it's own leading digit extension range. Like 6XXX in one hotel and 7XXX in the other hotel. Be sure to program ports to send no matter what. If you don't when either port is in trouble, the other one will be blocked as well. BUT, the pms is going to be a problem that has NO resolution unless it's one big PMS system and some method is created to differentiate between the hotels. Heck, use room numbers that fully match extension numbers and see where that goes. This is beginning to get interesting.
I suspect the $$$ will eventually nix the common system. You've got elevator, pool, and exercise room emergency calls to think about AND the feed cable from 1 hotel with the system in it to the other. Unless you use fiber. Still gonna cost $$. And what happens if they want to sell only 1 property? Or what about when the building with the main controller burns, or is otherwise damaged? John C. (Not Garand)

I would suggest steering them towards two seperate systems. Might save alot of conflict that can be avoided from the get-go. You can always tie the two together for room to room dialing, etc., but I'd keep the PMS and call accounting seperate.

I would connect two system together with B2B T1 and do Analoge Networking with one CAA and PMS by using different numbers in front of the Room numbers. Like John C said: 6XXX and 7XXX

Got to agree with Dan, consider the drawbacks I mentioned as well. Still, it would be an interesting challenge. And every time I took on some off-the-wall challenge like this, I walked away with a sore posterior, even tho I beat it every time. smile John C. (Not Garand)
