Not a huge deal but it might save someone a few minutes of frustration as some point in time. If you telnet into the 200 ICP you get an initial login prompt at which point you have enter the user name and password before getting the usual login menu.

I found out by accident that the initial login is governed by the password for maintenance functions and not password for CDE functions

It's one of those gothca's. Best practices tell you to make the maint and cde passwords the same.

BTW, don't you mean secure telnet? smile

One other thing, for remote access via web, you need ports 443 and 2000 opened, 80 helps too.

I think you will find this started when the software enabled you to jump between cde and maintenance without logging out.

Yes - secure Telnet. Port 80 and port 443 are for http and https respectively if you want to use browser interface. I don't actually ever use them. I use PuTTY 's secure telnet because I can log printable output so I can capture text file of the program via display option in form 32.

As far as passwords being the same I normally do make them the same, but had neglected to change the maintenance password on one system - which is how I found out the information I initially posted.
