How's it going an old electrical engineer showed me how to clip to a line in a home or building's junction box and press "xxx" with your diagnostic phone to get a link to the phone company which will tell you the line that you're on. Any other useful codes that you repair technicians know about? A long time ago someone showed me a code with which you could make whatever phone you dialed it from start ringing the moment you hung up. Upon picking it up you would get a strange tone. Useful for something or just a clitch in the system? Thanks a lot peace Keith

Sorry keith but We preffer not to leave those codes on the open forum.

WotansVolk,

We do not give out codes and numbers to anyone we don't have in our installers database. Please read the rules and regulations, as well as the post on the top of every category.

Yes the code, then hangup, and ring again is useful for many things. Not a glitch.

Remember that clipping onto someone elses line or junction box is not only unethical, it is illegal. Same with listening to others' conversations.

Did you know you could listen to someone's conversation just by pressing the button on your bananna (tone receiver) and holding it close to the dial tone pins, not even touching them. Old CIA trick and it wouldn't show extra impedence on the line.

I have also used my tone probe to test speaker jacks. Just press it up to the jack and push the button.

Yeah hi I'm pretty sure I didn't mention tapping into anyone's phone conversations or using someone elses lines to make calls because that's not really what I'm interested in. . . My mom is doing an extention on her house and she's got three phone lines coming in for her personal and office use, and I'm going to be rerouting them pretty extensively. I know that there are diagnostic codes that techs use to put together their systems, just thought I'd ask to see if you could impart some of the knowledge to an interested party. Don't worry, I'm not gonna start doing this for a living and take anyone's job. Thanks again Keith

If it's 3 separate lines no hunting involved. Just get on one, dial the number, get a busy it's that number, as long as you know no ones using the line of course, if not try another number. You could also just trip one of the other two if you get ringing, but I think the first way will work best for you.

To receive basic technical assistance you should complete your profile . The techs on this open forum like to know who they are talking to . smile welcome . What type of key/pbx system are the 3 lines connected to now ? Let us know . If she just has 3 individual pots lines , just follow Bill's advice .
