Working with Opera tech who tells me I am supposed to have protocol options in PBX database. I don't see this in database or manual. I can "talk" to PBX PMS and turn MW light on and off. I can connect via serial port to Opera system and receive info from them, but when connected together he doesn't get a response from PBX. He's refering to HOLODEX and HYATT. Tells me his end is hard coded and can't change, so my end must have the options to change. Only options I'm aware of are related to vmail. HELP! I'm onsite and would like to get this resolved. TIA.

What system? He should just need to set his end up for Mitel, it is a hospitality standard.
That's why I hate those PMS people.

When you connect to the opera system, do you have to use a null modem?

This was all working previously. When I connect my laptop I'm using connector from back of dataset to get info from them. Dataset was replaced recently, but I'm "talking" through the new one.

if you connect straight thru to both devices, it means that both are acting as DCE's. If that is the case, a null modem would be needed for the two to talk to each other.

There is an Equinox serial converter in PMS box, and the connector on the back is the same Equinox connector that has been there since day 1.

PMS, I hate it(them). Did this failure start with a power outage/blink/lightning? Or an 'update' from the PMS folks. (Updates almost always create problems)
Is the present problem the EXACT same problem that caused the 1103 to be changed initially? If it is, tell the PMS folks to get on the stick. Ask for supervisors, or a KNOWLEDGEABLE tech. DON'T let them BS you. The front line tech support is newly trained and typically doesn't have a clue. Ask when the last 'UPDATE' was installed by remote and have they come up with, and installed, the patch to make it work right yet?

Have you verified the dataset settings in the form 11 to see if they are the same as what the PMS people say they are. I have had problems with their techs downlowading new files that change the settings and then claim that we are the problem. When they start talking about the Holidex or Hyatt protocols it is usually associated with an Express Messenger interface.

tony, unless the Mitel had to be reprogrammed due to MCC replacement, upgrade, unauthorized access, etc, there should be NO problem replacing 1 1103 with another. The dataset's programming, such as it is, is provided by and through the Mitel and is stored in the Mitel. Unless the programming in the Mitel has been 'fixed', the GD Opera system has been 'hosed', 'upgraded', 'patched', 'enhanced', etc. IT'S A PMS PROVIDER/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE PROBLEM. However, if you haven't rebooted the Mitel, you could try a reboot, AFTER you save a copy of the program. Both on paper and on disc. THEN, when it STILL doesn't work, suggest a reboot to the OPERA people. Oh yeah, ONCE PMS folks stumbled across an 'unauthorized' program in a system I was working on. Front desk had installed 'Agent Of Lucifer' CD in PMS server. (Did you EVER try to get rid of EVERY AOL file? Can't be done without a complete reload of OS and 'authorized' programs, according to PMS folks.)
In all my many (WAY TOO MANY) broken PMS repairs, (200+) only ONCE has it been a Mitel problem, a blown up 1103. Manager; "Oh yeah, we had a lightning strike that took out the entire PMS system, and now the PMS people say that there's still a Mitel problem" You guessed it, the 1103 was destroyed by the 'backfeed' from the 'smoked' PMS system. NEVER, EVER, believe the PMS folks. If you can talk to the Mitel with the PMS emulator reliably, IT'S NOT THE MITEL. ESPECIALLY IF NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE MITEL!!!!!!!!!

Tony, "Hyatt" protocol is also called "Ritchie" or "Encore." I believe that it's 1200-E-7-1, but that's off the top of my head. At one time, nearly all PMS talked "Hyatt/Ritchie" or "HIS" (Holiday Inn Systems). Ask him what baud and parity he expects on his port, and set your port to match. I can't remember if there's also a PMS selection in form 4 or if it's somewhere else... ... have to dig out an ML Tech handbook...
