I have a TIE EK-516B system and after several years it has started dropping the connection on an extension about 800 feet from the base and once in a while on the next closest ext. I would like to know what the carrior voltage should be on this system. It looks like 9.9 vdc on it now. thanks for any help.

I think you may have some trouble finding anyone who remembers the 516, much less anyone who remembers any specific details about its operation. The last one I saw was in 1995--and it was obsolete then.
I see that manuals are still for sale on that sytem, but $60 plus shipping is quite an investment for a system that old and cranky.
I had a manual, at one time, but tossed it out back in '99 or so. The only thing I remember is that when opening up the door to do service---you had to make sure you didn't pull out the ribbon cables. Isn't that the one?? Blue box. Yikes!!!! Good Luck.

BUT before you do that......DUMP THAT PIECE OF JUNK....

I believe the 516 had 3 pairs to each station 1 pair for voice (Blue white pair) and 2 pairs for control signals and phantom power to the station (orange white transmit to phone/green white recieve from phone) and the DC phantom voltage 24V was beteween the orane and green pairs.

the 516 use only 2 pairs of wires......

In an earlier post I talked about a system that went down at a pizza delivery on the OU-OSU game weekend. This was the one. Hate to say it, but unless it has a ton of sentimental value, change it out.

One other thing. If you need to have extensions 500-800 feet away from the KSU, you might consider a system with 2500 ports, like a Panasonic Hybrid or a Starplus Digital.

2500 sets are single line phones like people have in their home. Most small systems have some means of attaching those sets to ports on the KSU, either by special cards, adapters, modules, or incorporated in the design of the KSU itself. There were, however, many small systems manufactured in the middle to late '80s that could NOT support 2500 sets.

This is one that won't support 2500 sets.

According to the manual the max distance from the KSU is 500' for 24-gauge wire and 800' for 22-gauge wire.

This is a 2 pair (4 wire) system, not 3 pair. The RD/GN (W/BL) par is the talk path and BK/YL (W/O) pair provides power and data.

I did not find the normal voltages for keyset power in the manual (yes I still have my manual). I do not still have any of these systems around (thank God) or I could meeter one for comarison.
