My ONYX VS has a data terminal for SMDR reporting and programming via a dumb terminal. I have set in the program the correct baud rate, and tried to hyperterm in with a null modem cable. I am using the default baud rate 8N1 and according to the manual XON/XOFF for hardware control. Do I also need the DCE adapter? Or will the null modem cable work with this. I have been unsuccessful getting any data at all from the switch, and I have rebooted the switch as well, looking for the reboot sequence in my terminal but do not get anything at all.

According to the manual I will need an RS 232C type cable and a DCE/DCE adapter. Does this sound accurate?

I recall a straight serial to the Onyx , null modem for VM program
I use a "smart cable " so I just slide the switch unitll I get two lights then I'm good to go
try it both ways , its simple enough

Well, I had to dig in several manuals. Thankfully I have found them all online. And just so everyone knows if interested. It is an RS232 Cable that gets you in. That is of course after digging through another manual and finding the default baud rate, changing that to match my machine, the right start bits, blah blah......but hey, I AM IN NOW!!
