I have a fax machine that is on an OPX. I have assigned it line 3 given it access and callout control, and direct termed it to the OPX,I can dial a trunk access number (IE. 803) to access the line. I cannot use 9. I have assigned that line to a line group, i have also enabled single digit dialing. all the other stations have access to lines 1 and 2 via the line groups, by dialing a 9.
what did i miss?

Have you assigned line 3 (372) to its own trunk group (group 91,92,93)? OPX extension must be circuit type 51 and have access to whatever group you programmed line 3 to reside in.

For the Onyx VS and Onxy III/IV in remote terminal programming goto QZ for Single Digit Access. If you turn it to yes then you will be able to dial 9, if you have other trunk groups you will not be able to turn ON single digit access because you will not be able to access trunk groups 91-98.

Okay, I tested that Chris. I was able to grab the line from the line group with 92. But when I put back to single digit access, I am unable to get the line with just a nine. The trunk group access code works fine. My understanding from the book was that with single digit access this only affected groups 96-98. Am I wrong on this? It would seem by what you have said and what I tested that you would be correct. So, is there no way to access a line with a single digit?

There is no way to access a line using single digit access if you have trunk groups other than 90.

If Line Group ONE uses Dial 9 to sieze a line, then the 9 would only grab lines contained within line group ONE.

Since, it sounds like you are using a second line group containing line 3, you could not use the "dial 9" to seize a line in any other line group.

it's all tip and ring
