Is it necessary to replace the power supplies when converting from a 384i to 704i cpu and station cards?

No idea as I have never worked on a 704i upgrade before. I suggest calling NEC tech support.

You will have to replace the main power supply and the first digital station card has to be a 32dstu and then the rest of the cards can be used from the 384i. Note, on the 704i each card takes 32 ports even if you have a 16 port card installed.
