we need to put a door box on a norstar system. what are the benefits of using the norstar door box over say a Viking W2000 connected to a trunk port. I've used a Viking unit, it connects to a trunk port and causes the trunk to ring.

How does the norstar door box work, what's your opinion?

Depends on your application. Home or office go Nortel. Industrial app go Viking. As you know, the Viking requires power. The Nortel Door Box connects as a station and there is some programming to do and both units can be integrated to their own brand of door controller.

Don't know ALL the details, but remember this. On the norstar door module, it basically just dials 1 set for you. Then you have to program all the phones you want to ring to have an answer DN for that set that the doorphone dials. You can only put like 7 (ok, this is an approx. #) AnswerDN's for one extn... There are ways around this but they are a major pain in the butt. On the other hand your module connects to a line so you can program as many phones as you want to ring on that line ...

Hope this helps...

acutally for simplicity in cost, wiring, and programming use the nortel. Its basically 7208 programming wise, and half the cost of the viking. Additionally, you can use hunt groups which allow you to assign the dn you want to ring, plus programming an all call internal tone identifies the door phone.
