I have a working auto-attendant and I'm using the Company Directory option. The employees DO NOT want to give their last name only their first. I have changed their names in the mailbox setup. However, when a caller hits # for the company directory. "The messange states please enter the LAST name of the person you would like to reach". My question is..."Is their another pre-recorded message that states "Enter the FIRST name..." or can I over write it with my own message?

i've had this situation before. bunch of secretaries don't want clients to know their last name (???) So, we said in the autoattendant "To dial by first name, press #"

then you just spell the user's first name.

i don't think you can re-record a system prompt.

I agree with jsaad, I've never run into that particular problem, but I've looked through the book, and don't beleive the system prompts can be changed in flash either. My only other thought would be if you have 8 or less phone set up a CCR tree, for John press 1,for Bill press 2 etc......

Sorry can't change that greeting. If this is in a small company, I will change it and say "for the company directory dial 1 (or whatever)" and then just record an info branch in the tree and just say "Press the star key at anytime to return to the main menu, Billy bob ext 221, Jonathan ext. 222"

It's best to put the names in order of who get the most calls, but again, this is only good in a small company.

Can't overwrite that message. Really try talking them into using last names. From my dealings with announcing people's names in the greeting becomes a real pain in the butt. Everytime someone is hired or fired you have to change the greeting. Its easy to do, but if the place has a high turnover it becomes a problem to have to change the greeting all the time. Also using first names you will have more of a chance of having multiple matches alot. ex. Jenn., using last name will lower the chances of that. In short try to use last names its easier. Good Luck.

Agreably it's a pain in the behind to re-record the entire greeting when someone is fired or hired, but then again, it's a service call on a regular basis for those customers that don't touch the tree's in their voicemail themselves...

Good point Meridian, but sometime down the pike when the bill payer finds out that he or she is paying those bills because of something silly like someone doesn't want their last name mentioned they tend to get a little pissy. That means you run the risk of losing the customer all together. Not only that another answer to his question might be just don't put that persons mailbox in the directory. Just a thought. That's just my opinion. Take it easy.
