I HAVE A M7410 CORDLESS PHONE AND THE HANDSET IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS. CAN I USE ANY HANDSET ON THE BASE? I TRIED ANOTHER BUT IT SAID INVALID HANDSET. BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BUY A NEW UNIT JUST BECAUSE ONE PART GOES BAD. IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE ANOTHER HANDSET WORK? THANKS

The Handsets are matched to the bases. The only way to make another handset work is to reprogram the flash IC.(you would need the software, and NORTEL is'nt giving it away) Nortel now has the T7406, which is a replacement to this set. It has a base, which is centrally located and up to 3 handsets(any 3) can work off this base/Antt. Best bet is to send it off to Nortel to see if they can repair it. (Below pertains to the T7406!!)Be wary of reseller units! Nortel made a bunch of these with "out of spec" parts(9/2001 to 8/2002), which led to handsets that would not sync to bases, excessive static and broken voice path. When these sets were repaired by Nortel, they placed a 1/4 green dot under the battery in the handset. If you look for reseller sets, ask if this green dot is there, or make sure manu date is different than what is listed above. Hope this helps!

This may be a silly question, but have you checked the battery?

Good info..Telset, I'll have to keep that in mind as well. I've never installed one but have had to work on a few and have had a hard time even finding any documentation on one.

I have a similar problem - used same battery for five years (no spare). Suddenly today the handset does not recognize it's buddy the base unit. Does battery condition/life have any bearing on "Invalid Handset" error. And how is Flash IC used to correct this problem?
