Hello, this is my first post, but I have been reading and enjoying the information passed along by all. Congrats on a well structured and managed site. I am new at installs and have a myriad of systems to work on. My dilemma… I am attempting to set up 4 analog E&M ports from an 11C to a Cisco 2600. I used the NTP wiring guidelines for the NT8D15 card for the 2W Type 1 configuration. I am sort of stuck however understanding Cisco’s instructions on the router side wiring/pinouts. Currently have a RJ45 going into the router with 4 wires. Has anyone ever attempted this? I don’t know if it will work, but thought I would bounce the question. The 2600 (server side) uses a VIC-2E/M (Voice interface card) and there is a 2600 with a VIC-2FXS on the far end. I’m thinking that the vendor is incorrect on this one, but willing to try anything once or twice. Behind the far end will be 2 analog sets. Two far end sites, making the four ports. I am reading a much as I can, but getting tired (and lazy). I am wide open for any suggestions…Thanks!

If you do em you should to em on both sides. If the remote end has fxs, then you should use fxo on your side, if you plan to ring dial-tone down to the single lines connected to the fxs ports.

What are you trying to achieve, ext to ext, or trunk to ext configuration. Please elaborate what type of connectivity and functionality you are trying to acomplish.

Nails,
Sorry for delay, airlines canx my return flight. Right now, I am basically attempting a trunk - to - extension config. Intent is to provide each remote location dialtone from the PBX. I programmed/wired the pbx for Type 1/2W em. Here I interface into a cisco 2600 series router with a (Analog EM) Voice Interface Card (VIC) to a cisco 3500 series which traverses a wireless bridge connection into a 2600 on the far end. The far end drops 2 analog ports via(FXS)VIC. I was sort of limited because vendor paid & shipped routers and em trunk cards. I leaning with you in that i think I may just need 4 analog tn's (AMWC card) and perhaps replace the em voice interface card on the front side making standard and should do the trick. Still attempting to get the planner's thoughts on the config/design. I also asked him if users will eventually want to dial into these remote locations. Maybe the routers require the em config which would require changing to em vic's on the far end. Thanks....tw

If you can switch to an em solution all the way through you would benefit highly. EM will provide a smoth ext - ext dialing plan and allow each site to access pool groups with remote dialtone. I am drawing a blank on the parameters for the ICS, but i believe the EM supported are 4 wire type 2. Please confirm elsewhere if you decide to go this route.

Good info. I will explore this option first. Now also getting feedback that the em vic may require a <pbx>router>pbx> config, which makes sense. Since cust lacks pbx at far end, i may need to go with analog>router>fx solution. Will let ya know. thanks!!...

Yeah,

No PBX on the remote end then you have to use a FXO / FXS solution. No way around that.
