Hmm...i'v never done this before....but maybe you could put the paging amp. on an ATA and then set up a CO line with an auto attendent on it so that the caller can dial the extension the ATA is on and get the paging amp.

I'm not quite clear on what you are trying to acomplish. Are you wanting a simple paging system, or does the situation require someone off premis calling a number and the conversation being played over the PA? I'm trying to understand why you would need the line to play over the PA, or do you just need the line for sommeone offsite to make an annoucment? Give us a little more info on what you are trying to acomplish. In the mean time check out https://www.vikingelectronics.com/ They pretty much have a module to do anything you may want and thier tech and pre-sale support are great. Many years ago, I had just such an installation. The key, in our case, was a line sensing module installed on the "fire line" in front of the KSU. The relay did not operate until the line was answered. Then the line was transformer coupled to the page amp.

Thanks for the replies. Johnyreb , i have a bogen tpu-a paging amp and the paging works fine. The cust wants to answer this one line and have the conversation go out thru the paging sys so all the firemen can hear it. Jwooten, it sounds like the same situation. I can't have ringing current passing thru. I will check out the links posted and let you know. Many Thanks Joe

Both bogen and viking have products that allow paging on the trunk side of a phone system. If you dont want ringing then simply set up a vacant trunk port with the paging system, once you connect the call create a conference with the page trunk. Or run your dial tone parallel to the system with a 2 pole toggle switch, when the call is complete flip the switch and have the broadcast over the page. This option can be used if you have an auxillary port for dial tone, as many page amps now have.

I've worked around Centrex/Essx in years past and at times needed an interface for CO based systems to be able to page. I'm seeing this again with VOIP where the customer has a Key System, swithes to VOIP and wants to use the existing external paging gear. Bogen makes a device called a TAM (Telephone Access Module) that accepts a CO line and has an output that connects to your paging amp. You connect a CO line to the TAM and dialup paging by calling the TAM.
This is where I start speculating about this application. Would it be possible to take an ATA port into the TAM. Any call could be answered on the system, transfered to the ATA port, the TAM would answer and connect to the Paging Amp. and at that point the person on the incoming CO line would be broadcasted over the paging system. Anyone ever tried this?? My only concern is would the ATA release when the caller hangs up? My understanding is that the ATA doen't have DS and it's possible that the ATA could lock up the port?? Anyway, just a thought!

I have seen, on a toshiba system, wires going from the speaker inside a speaker phone strait to a paging amp. Just a thought. JBW
