One of our other techs went to a site with a very strange problem... I do not know which cabinet/model we are dealing with until I get there tomorrow.

Supposedly line one rings 8 times then gets answered by a modem tone + hangup. I had him disconnect all the station from the ksu, and made sure there is no external modem hooked up to the system.

Are there any Nortel systems with an internal modem?

What else could it be?

Had the same thing happen in my own office,
traced it back to the alarm panel, it was set to answer after a certain amount of rings, I had the alarm company turn it off and its been fine.

I hope it's that simple. I would have thought that this other tech would have spotted something like that.

He claimed that the line only went into the system, and when he unhooked it from the Nortel the modem tone would NOT answer!

It sounds like they have a RAD that is set to auto-answer after 8 rings or they have a modem on an ATA that is picking up.

All CICS have an Irad and yours appears to be enabled!

I agree with the above. It is either the Irad answering or a fire alarm panel. Check the Irad possibility first. If thats not it check to see if they have a fire alarm panel.
