We have a norstar MICS 6.1 with analog DID lines and POTS service. The target lines for the DID appear on individual phones and on the receptionist phone. A couple of managers have DND on Busy:Y so that if they are on the phone, their phone will not ring. However if they are on the phone or put a call on hold, they cannot receive a transferred call to them. The receptionist is telling me that the display says the transfer does not go through, it says the manager phone is busy.

Is this an issue of getting DND set to N or is it something else. Not sure where to start.

If the phone is busy and its set for DND on busy will not receive any call either transferred or incoming call because the set considered busy ,but if you have call forward on busy the call will go the VM ,other than this it will get busy signal or non transfer calls. I usually have this feature set to no. I hope that helps.

what if the guy puts the call on hold, is his set still considered busy?

SO is the solution to just give them a DND button so they can choose when they want DND on/off? Is there a better way to do this?

Yes, it’s considered busy if he has some one on hold. If you program a DND button and activated at any time you will have the same problem during that time , so its up to you and your customer unless you activate call forward on busy so the call will go to the VM instead of getting a busy tone, I usually have this feature inactive That’s my opinion.
