can the newer style t series phones work on the old 616's with dr2 or 5...

yes, you just won't the red LED for msgs.

Also the buttons for the lines will not start at the top of the line keys.
These sets emulate a M7310 unless you have a compact ICS or Modular ICS with 6-1 or higher software.
