Hi,

I have a Norstar 3x8 system and I have purchased an Algo Duet Plus auxilary ringer. I sucessfully wired the Aux Ringer, but have hit a problem with programming.

MY GOAL: To enable users to turn the aux ringer on/off. I use all eight extensions, but only one outside line and I also have a doorphone installed. When we are outside, I want the aux ringer to ring for external calls and calls from the gate. When we are inside, I do not want the Aux Ringer to ring at all.

FAILED ATTEMPTS:
1) I enabled aux ringing for lines and sets. Result: Aux Ringer rings all the time.

2) I created a service mode called "OUTDOOR" and selected Aux Ringer to "YES". When the service mode was enabled, the Aux Ringer rang for external calls, but not internal calls from the gate.

3) I also tried programming the gate's Answer DN for Aux ring to YES, but that didn't seem to work either.

4) Then I created another service mode called INDOOR. I thought I could disable all Aux Ringers if I selected NO to Aux Ring in the INDOOR service mode. Then we could just switch between OUTDOOR AND INDOOR. But the Aux Ringer still rang in INDOOR service mode when the lines and sets are programmed for Aux Ring=YES.

If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE, reply to this post.

Thanks very much.

Saul

Hi Saul,

I know you are trying to solve this problem through Norstar programming, so this idea may be rejected.

In similar situations to yours, I have used a manual toggle switch to disable the ringer. As far as the system knows, it is ringing all of the time. But, the users have control with the flip of a switch.

Good Luck!

BCM guy is right. There is no way to do what you want without using a toggle switch unless you had an unused phone you could forward to (and have AUX RING turned on for that phone).

I have a phone in my server room that I never get calls on so if you have a spare like this you can do what I did.

I set the spare phone up as an Aux ringer so when that rings, the bell rings. When the operator goes to lunch, she forwards her phon to that phone so it rings the buzzer.

I still forward the phone to Vmail on no answer for this phone in the server room so even if no one picks up, the call will go to voice mail. Since there is no Vmail box for this phone, the caller goes to the General Delivery default mailbox just as with the operator.

Thanks Everyone. Jordan that sounds like a great idea. I think that will work just fine.

Thanks,

Saul
