We have a customer with a 0X32 with 2 pri's one used for point to point, NAM voice mail with software 4.1.05 and Minuet ACD. Their IT dept found and bought a hard drive for the NAM from a teleco supply company. The supply company stated the hard drive has the operating software on it. What our customer wants if the old hard drive crashed is be able to pull the bad hard drive out and pop the new one in and presto every thing will work. I am not a expert on the Nortel but I see a proplem with key codes. Am I correct?

Wait for BCMGuy or one of the other moderators to jump in here---but in the mean time---here's what I think. I don't see a problem with keycodes, but unless you
1. Back up the present hard drive
2. Have the correct hard drive
3. Have the correct version of software on the hard drive
4. Restore the info on the new hard drive
5. Know & are familiar with the feature codes to do this------
NOTHING will go "and presto everything will work".
I wouldn't attempt this unless you had some paid support from someone who had done this before. Possibly the Minuet may enter into this also. I'm not familiar with that aspect at all. Last month we replace a hard drive on a NAM---and it went flawlessly---but I did alot of homework on it, and had some good support. JMHO Good Luck

JWRacedog.

Thanks for the reply
I should have explained better, the customer would like to mirror the 2 hard drives.I see no problem with their IT personel doing this if what your saying about the software being the same verison, correct?
To activate the Minuet software I had to contact Cintech and give them the serial number of the system using feature code 919 and than scrolling threw the screens for the serial number. Do you know if this serial# is for the NAM, hard drive or voice mail software? The only problem I see is with the Minuet, do you agree?

FYI The existing hard drive is backed up once a week.

Yes---the Minuet, from my standpoint, is the unknown factor. I just haven't had any experience with that ACD and don't have a clue as to what it's reaction would be to any procedure like this. But it sure seems as if you have most of your ducks in a row. The Nortel Mods will probably catch this thread and shed some lite on this.

Sorry, but I know nothing about Minuet or NAMs for that matter.

Sorry, been away awhile.

Hi dans,

I think you'll probably be OK. But, I would recommend a scheduled outage to attempt the swap before the system actually crashes. If you do have a problem with Minuet, Cintech will be able to help if your maintenance is current. If the contract with Cintech has lapsed, they will be happy to bring you current (have a charge card ready smile ).

Good Luck!

BCM Guy,

We are to schedule after hours swap out test, I think we will leave out the Minuet part and focus on voice mail only. You are right about Cintech, if the existing hard drive would fail and the replacement installed Cintech tech support would help in re-installing the Minuet software on the new hard drive.

Thanks to all for the replies.

Dan S

I am not a real PC guru, I use a Mac and hire a guru but there are people who are cloning hard drives onto Compact Flash cards and using an IDE to CF adapter and letting the hard drive sit on the shelf.

Ethically, you are paying for the license and if the hard drive sits on the shelf and isn't used by anyone else, you could greatly increase your reliability.

Years ago, Samsung would sell the dealer a new Starmail hard drive for $400 or so saying it included the "license." Well when the old hard drives died, they didn't take the old "license" back and give any credit. Say what you will, it was screwing the customer because the hard drives were not reliable.

It is one thing to give a warranty for the hard drive and after the warranty tell the customer to buy another hard drive. It is quite another to tell a long term customer that he owns three liceses, one for the running hard drive and two on the dead hard drives that have probably been put in the trash.
