I have a bcm 1000 and a toll free number whose last 4 digits are 7700. I put the 7700 in the Public Number field in Target Lines and then assign that target line to an extension but it won't ring that phone, it still goes to the receptionists. All my other DIDs work this way except for this one toll free number.

I did confirm with my carrier that 7700 are the digits being sent, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

Please help!

usually 800 numbers are tied to your main number
i presume thats why its going to reception
if its a seperate did make sure your target line is programed to ring at your set

I did forget to mention that we have a 23 channel PRI which this toll free number is pointed to. If that helps any...

It is a separate DID and the target line is programmed to ring my set.

Is there any way for me to confirm that the digits being sent are the correct ones?

It sounds like you've set everything up properly on your end. What line # rings through to reception when you dial the 800 number? I believe if it rings through on a line # assigned to one of the PRI channels (rather than a target line #) that the BCM isn't recognizing the incoming digits.

Don't know if this will help but...

We had a Samsung iDCS 5oo where one number ending in 00 would not ring the phone and Samsung said that they sometimes had problems with the software had problems with multiple zeros (go figure.)

Paetec was the CLEC delivering the PRI and they did a translation in their central office so that when the switch saw those particular digits it translated the number and sent different digits.

For instance 800-539-1000 would come in and the switch would translate the DID digits to 1234 and we programed 1234 to ring the particular phone. Never had that problem again.

I don't know that Nortel and Samsung software have the same quirk, but it would be easy to test, just ask the LEC or CLEC to translate the digits from 7700 to 1234 or some other number you like. If that solves it fine, who cares why the S/w acts funny?

THE Bunnie,

I was thinking something along those lines myself. I was wondering if it (the bcm) for some reason doesn't recognize the trailing zeros or chops them off, but I don't know how to verify that.

I do have a tech from the company who setup the system coming out today because this is just too much of a headache with everything else I need to get done.

Thanks everyone, I do appreciate the responses!

Have you tried calling the local number that the toll free number points to, to see if that rings on your phone? Just a thought.

Yes, it goes to reception, as it should.
